Q&A

Poster and printing

How should I care/look after my print?

To uncurl or flatten a print, carefully remove it from the postal tube whilst keeping it covered in the protective tissue paper. Lay it out on a clean, flat surface, image side up. With the tissue paper covering the print’s image, place some smooth, flat objects (like books) on the ends and middle of the print. Let your VJ Type print relax over-night and it should be nice and flat. Avoid uncurling it by rolling the print the opposite way to receiving it, as you can easily crease it if done incorrectly.

What is screen printing?

Screen printing is a printing process using a screen made up of meshes of which we leave free those that correspond to the image to be printed (the larger the meshes of the screen, the greater the deposit of ink will be and the tighter they will be, the more detailed we will go). Screen printing is based on the principle of stencil (see what is screen printing). Each color requires a typon (stencil) and the application of ink by the manual passage of a squeegee. It is therefore clear that X colors are equivalent to X passages and wedges.

How is the paper quality?

All prints from our VJ TYPE collection are screen printed by Atelier Kencre, in Lille, France on Arches® paper 88, 100% cotton, 300g, three deckle edges.

The paper we use is manufactured on a round form (traditional process close to the handicraft manufacturing). The paper is therefore homogeneous and has a good dimensional stability, an essential quality for the screen printing process which sometimes requires the successive application of numerous shades. Only the manufacture on round form makes it possible to obtain papers with fringed edges.

What ink is used to print?

The ink we use is a water-based medium that is less harmful than solvent-based inks. The main properties are a satin matte finish, vibrant colors and high opacity. The ink used guarantees excellent stability and durability to light as well as a real depth of black. Screen printing with water-based inks is perfect for projects that are environmentally friendly.

Is the white border printed?

All our prints are framed by a white outer border, it is part of the print design and is included in the size measures in cm.
